ANIMAL STORIES

A Town Mouse and A Country Mouse

A Town Mouse and a Country Mouse were friends. The Country Mouse one day invited his friend to come and see him at his home in the fields. The Town Mouse came and they sat down to a dinner of barleycorns and roots the latter of which had a distinctly earthy flavour.

The flavour was not much to the taste of the guest and presently he broke out with “My poor dear friend, you live here no better than the ants. Now, you should just see how I fare! My larder is a regular horn of plenty. You must come and stay with me and I promise you shall live on the fat of the land."

So when he returned to town he took the Country Mouse with him and showed him into a larder containing flour and oatmeal and figs and honey and dates.

The Country Mouse had never seen anything like it and sat down to enjoy the luxuries his friend provided. But before they had well begun, the door of the larder opened and some one came in. The two Mice scampered off and hid themselves in a narrow and exceedingly uncomfortable hole. Presently, when all was quiet, they ventured out again. But some one else came in, and off they scuttled again. This was too much for the visitor. "Good bye," said he, "I'm off. You live in the lap of luxury, I can see, but you are surrounded by dangers whereas at home I can enjoy my simple dinner of roots and corn in peace."

Bambi

Once upon a time, there was a forest where many animals live and all of them were very good friends.

One morning a little rabbit called Thumper went to wake up the owl to go to see a little fawn who had just be born. All the animals of the forest went together to meet Bambi, which was how the new fawn was called.

All of them made good friends of them and showed them all that was in the forest the flowers, the rivers and the names of the different animals because for Bambi, everything was unknown. Everyday they met in a clearing to play.

One morning, Bambi’s mum took her to see his father, who was the chief of the deer’s herd and the one in charge of watching and looking after them. While they were strolling, they heard a dog barking.

-“Run, Bambi, run!- said the father- keep you out of harm”.

-Why daddy?” Asked Bambi.

-“There are men and each time they come to the forest, they try to hunt us, that’s why when you heard them, you must flee and look for refuge.

Days went by and his father taught him all he had to know, because when he would be older, Bambi will have to take care of the herd.

Later, Bambi met a doe fawn very pretty called Farina, with whom he falled in love. One day they were playing and they heard a dog barking and Bambi thought “Men!” He tried to flee but he realised that the dog was so close that he had no chance but to face him to defend Farnina.

When she was safe, he tried to run but he came up against a precipice that he had to jump. When he jumped the hunters fired at him and Bambi was hurt.

Soon, his dad and friends came and help him to cross the river, because once they crossed it, they would be safe from men. When they managed it, they cured his injuries and he got well soon.

Time passed and our protagonist had grown up a lot. He was already an adult. He went to see his friend and it was difficult for them to recognize him because he had changed a lot and had beautiful antlers.

The owl was old and Thumper had married a rabbit and had three little rabbits. Bambi married Farina and had a fawn to whom all the animals in the forest went to meet. They all lived happily and Bambi was know in charge and looking after all of them, as his dad, who was already too old, had done before.

Elephant and Friends

One day an elephant wandered into a forest in search of friends.

He saw a monkey on a tree.

“Will you be my friend?” asked the elephant.

Replied the monkey, “You are too big. You can not swing from trees like me.”

Next, the elephant met a rabbit. He asked him to be his friends.

But the rabbit said, “You are too big to play in my burrow!”

Then the elephant met a frog.

“Will you be my friend? He asked.

“How can I?” asked the frog.

“You are too big to leap about like me.”

The elephant was upset. He met a fox next.

“Will you be my friend?” he asked the fox.

The fox said, “Sorry, sir, you are too big.”

The next day, the elephant saw all the animals in the forest running for their lives.

The elephant asked them what the matter was.

The bear replied, “There is a tier in the forest. He’s trying to gobble us all up!”

The animals all ran away to hide.

The elephant wondered what he could do to solve everyone in the forest.

Meanwhile, the tiger kept eating up whoever he could find.

The elephant walked up to the tiger and said, “Please, Mr. Tiger, do not eat up these poor animals.”

“Mind your own business!” growled the tiger.

The elephant has a no choice but to give the tiger a hefty kick.

The frightened tiger ran for his life.

The elephant ambled back into the forest to announce the good news to everyone.

All the animals thanked the elephant.

They said, “You are just the right size to be our friend.”

Jumbo, The little elephant

Once upon a time a baby elephant named Jumbo used to live in a forest. He always used to dream that one day he would be able to swim. His mother tried hopelessly to make him believe that he is very heavy in weight thats why he could not swim. But he never listened.

He would reach by the river and happily look at his glance in it.

Once he slept early and then he dreamed that he was swimming deep in the river. He was swimming here and there and frolicking happily. He made friendshp with some small but harmless fishes. He even found a place to take rest in nights. He was very happy. He could see the colors of different lights that were flickering ceaselessly. The lights were coming out from some fishes that were very beautiful and colorful.

After seeing him, the colorful fishes went to him and they asked his name. He said his name was Jumbo and from the very next day he became friends with them.
Now they would daily play hide and seek together. But in the meanwhile Jumbo could not realise the mischievious plan of those fishes. The fishes actually were very amused at the look of Jumbo. They wanted to make his big ears there home. They thought how would it like be if they play hide and seek in Jumbo's big fans like ears and his mouth.

One day when Jumbo was fast asleep after playing, all those colorful fishes arrived and entered his mouth and making exit fom his ears. They were playing and making fun of Jumbo. When Jumbo woke up he realised that he made a big mistake by making friendship with them.
He cried but nobody came for his help. At last his mother woke him up from his dream. Seeing his mother in front of him, Jumbo cried inconsolably and promised that he would never ever think of swimming in future. That made his mother happy and she served him hot delicious food.

The Crocodile

There was once a baby crocodile.   He had a beautiful shiny tail and all the other crocodiles were horrible to him because they were jealous of him.

One day the little baby crocodile counted all his beautiful shiny scales and there were a thousand.   A lot more than he thought.  So he counted all the other crocodiles and there were twenty and that was including the grown up crocodiles.  He decided that he had many scales and could spare forty from his tummy so he wished for forty of his scales to be on his pillow by morning, but there weren't any.  Even three weeks later there weren't any.

Then one day a magic crocodile granted him a wish. He wished for forty of his scales to be on his pillow when he woke up in the morning.

He woke up and there were forty beautiful shiny scales on his pillow.  So he gave all twenty crocodiles, including his parents two scales each.

From then on everybody was kind to the little baby crocodile who had given away forty of his beautiful shiny scales.

The Dog and The Wolf

A gaunt Wolf was almost dead with hunger when he happened to meet a House-dog who was passing by. "Ah, Cousin," said the Dog. "I knew how it would be; your irregular life will soon be the ruin of you. Why do you not work steadily as I do, and get your food regularly given to you?"

"I would have no objection," said the Wolf, "if I could only get a place."

"I will easily arrange that for you," said the Dog; "come with me to my master and you shall share my work."

So the Wolf and the Dog went towards the town together. On the way there the Wolf noticed that the hair on a certain part of the Dog's neck was very much worn away, so he asked him how that had come about.

"Oh, it is nothing," said the Dog. "That is only the place where the collar is put on at night to keep me chained up; it chafes a bit, but one soon gets used to it."

"Is that all?" said the Wolf. "Then good-bye to you, Master Dog."

Better starve free than be a fat slave.

The Fox and the Cat

It happened that the cat met the fox in a forest, and as she thought to herself, "He is clever and full of experience, and much esteemed in the world," she spoke to him in a friendly way.

"Good-day, dear Mr. Fox, how are you? How is all with you? How are you getting through this dear season?" The fox, full of all kinds of arrogance, looked at the cat from head to foot, and for a long time did not know whether he would give any answer or not. At last he said, "Oh, thou wretched beard-cleaner, thou piebald fool, thou hungry mouse-hunter, what canst thou be thinking of? Dost thou venture to ask how I am getting on? What hast thou learnt? How many arts dost thou understand?" - "I understand but one," replied the cat, modestly. "What art is that?" asked the fox. "When the hounds are following me, I can spring into a tree and save myself." - "Is that all?" said the fox. "I am master of a hundred arts, and have into the bargain a sackful of cunning. Thou makest me sorry for thee; come with me, I will teach thee how people get away from the hounds."

Just then came a hunter with four dogs. The cat sprang nimbly up a tree, and sat down on top of it, where the branches and foliage quite concealed her. "Open your sack, Mr. Fox, open your sack," cried the cat to him, but the dogs had already seized him, and were holding him fast.

"Ah, Mr. Fox," cried the cat. "You with your hundred arts are left in the lurch! Had you been able to climb like me, you would not have lost your life."

Two Goats

There were two goats.

Over a river there was a very narrow bridge.

One day a goat was crossing this bridge.

Just at the middle of the bridge he met another goat.

There was no room for them to pass.

"Go back," said one goat to the other, "There is no room for both of us".

"Why should I go back?” said the other goat. "Better you must go back."

“You must go back”, said the first goat, "because I am stronger than you.”

"You are not stronger than I”, said the second goat.

"We will see about that", said the first goat and he put down his horns to fight.

"Stop!” said the second goat.

“If we fight, we shall both fall into the river and be drowned and instead I have a plan. I shall lie down and you may walk over me.”

Then the wise one laid down on the bridge and the other goat walked highly over him.

So they crossed the bridge comfortably and went on their ways.

The three little pigs.

In the heart of the forest lived three little pigs who were brothers. The wolf always was chasing them to eat them. In order to escape from the wolf, the pigs decided to make a house each.

The smallest made his from straw, to finish first and go out to play. The middle one built a cottage from wood. Seeing that his little brother had finished already, he hurried to go and play with him. The oldest worked on his house of brick.

'You'll soon see what the wolf does with your houses,' he scolded his brothers but they were having a great time.

Very soon the wolf came behind the smallest pig and he ran up to his straw cottage, but the wolf blew and blew and the straw cottage fell down.

The wolf chased after the pig through the forest, who ran to take shelter in the house of his middle brother. But the wolf blew and blew and the wooden house toppled. The two little pigs were off like a shot from there

Breathless, with the wolf hot on their heels, they arrived at the house of their big brother. The three went inside and firmly closed all the doors and windows.

The wolf stood to think over the house, searching for some place for him to enter. Using a very long ladder he climbed to the roof, to sneak in by the chimney.

But the big pig put on the fire a pot of water. The greedy wolf went down inside the chimney but he fell on the boiling water and scalded himself.

He escaped from there giving terrible howls that were heard in all the forest. It is said that he never ever wanted to eat a little pig.

Whom bell the cat ?

A rat and its big family were living in a baker's shop. They scraped the buns and cakes in the bakery.

The baker tried his best to put an end to the nuisance of the rats. But all were in vain. At last he brought their real enemy-the cat to solve the problem.

In the very next day the cat got some tiny rats for its breakfast. The rat family got worried of the loss of their dear ones.

They arranged a meeting soon. They looked for an idea to escape from the cat. In the end, they decided to bell the cat.

Then one of the elder rats asked them, who is ready to bell the cat? Nobody said yes.

Instead they kept quiet.

The Frog Prince

Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful princess who had a golden ball. One day, while playing in the garden, the ball fell into a pond. She was very upset and did not know what to do. While she sat there crying helplessly, a frog hopped out of the pond and asked, “Why are you crying, little princess?” She told him about her golden ball.

The ugly frog said, “I can help you get your ball but what will you give me in return?” “I will give you anything you want!” promised the princess. The frog immediately dived into the water and fetched the ball for her. The princess was very happy. The frog reminded her, “Remember that you promised me anything. Well, I want to be your friend, eat from your plate, and sleep in your palace!” The princess hated the idea but she agreed and ran back to the palace.

The next morning, the princess found the frog waiting for her. He said, “I have come to live in your palace.” Hearing this, the princess ran to her father, crying. When the kind king heard about the promise, he told her, “A promise is a promise and you must keep your word. You must let the frog stay here.” The princess was very angry but she had no choice and let the frog stay. He ate from her plate during dinner and asked the princess to take him to her bed at night. The princess picked him up angrily and threw him to the floor.

In a flash, the frog turned into a handsome prince! He told the princess that he had actually been under the spell of a wicked witch. The princess fell in love with the prince. They were married and lived happily ever after.
